On Monday 4th May, cycling enthusiasts from all over Teesside descended on Derek Campbell Tyre and Exhaust Centre for a race like other – a 25 mile charity bike ride in aid of Middlesbrough’s MS Therapy Centre.
One of our favourite events of the year started from our auto centre at Preston Farm Industrial Estate, and took riders on a course through Aislaby and Middleton St George before sending them back to Urlay Nook and back to the Industrial Estate. Fortunately, the weather played its part and our participants were able to thoroughly enjoy their Bank Holiday Monday supporting a great local charity.
The MS Therapy Centre is a self-funding charity that provides support and assistance for MS sufferers as well as stroke victims and people with other neurological disorders. Overall, the organisation has over 50 independent centres across the United Kingdom, with over 15’000 people using their services every week.
We believe that the MS Therapy Centre plays a vital role in the lives of Multiple Sclerosis sufferers, their families and carers in Teesside. However, with over 100’000 people that are directly affected by MS in the UK, the organisation clearly has its work cut out in providing support and relevant therapies wherever and whenever it can.
In support of their important work, cyclists from the Stockton Wheelers Cycling Club as well as many other cycling clubs in the area came together to show their support and gratitude for this amazing organisation, and in particular our local MS Centre in Middlesbrough, which helps people living the Tees Valley, North Yorkshire, County Durham and even as far away as Northumberland and the Tyre and Wear.
Overall, we were able to raise £3433 for the MS Therapy Centre! We hope to see everyone again soon and are already eagerly planning next year’s event!
