At Derek Campbell Tyre and Exhaust Centre we understand just how important it is to keep your tyres fully inflated and pressurised at all times. Not only does it literally keep your vehicle on the road, but simply the act of keeping tyres at their correct pressure can extend the lifespan of your tyres considerably and save money in fuel costs.
This is perhaps best demonstrated by a recent initiative undertaken by Anglian Water in partnership with the tyre specialist Michelin earlier this year. During the initiative, Michelin provided a training module for managers at all levels at Anglian Water to participate in, which aimed to educate and raise awareness of the importance of tyre pressure.
Extend Tyre Life
Drawing on a random sample of 100 cars and vans, Michelin inspectors recorded a significant increase in the accuracy of tyre pressures across the board – in 2015, the tyres in the Anglian Water fleet were found to be within less than 0.1% of a margin of accuracy of their recommended tyre pressure levels, compared with 15.2% in 2011.
When compared to their earlier levels it was calculated that Anglian Water were losing an equivalent of up to 10% of the lifespan of their tyres, simply because they were being used whilst being underinflated.
In addition to extending the life of their tyres, Anglian Water was able to save some 60,546 litres of fuel over the course of the initiative, which equates to some 143.7 tonnes of CO₂. This marked a significant contribution to both the fleet efficiency and environmental targets for the company.
Save Fuel Costs
Initiatives like the one above have consistently shown that keeping tyres properly inflated can have a massive impact on the UK as a whole, saving fuel costs for drivers, making the roads a safer place to be and contributing towards environmental goals by reducing the carbon footprint associated with getting from A to B.
At Derek Campbell Tyre and Exhaust Centre we are happy to emphasise the importance of this issue and raise awareness amongst drivers in our local area, many of whom are not even aware that they are driving on underinflated tyres.
